Emily Sun was the Gold Medal winner of the Royal-Overseas-League Competition UK in 2016. Brought up in Sydney, Emily began playing violin at the age of 5 and is the winner of major Australian competitions including Symphony Australia Young Performer of the Year Strings Award. Whilst studying for her Bachelor and Master of Music at the Royal College of Music, London, she has won all available prizes at the College, and many international competitions.
Emily featured as the schoolgirl soloist in the acclaimed feature length documentary, Mrs Carey’s Concert. An ambitious music teacher cajoles and encourages the entire school to participate in a biennial concert at the Sydney Opera House.
It is hoped that whilst in Beaminster, Emily will meet pupils at Beaminster School to discuss the hard work needed for success, and the power, thrill and sense of achievement of a collective performance.
Emily’s programme is wonderfully varied, ranging from Schubert’s Grand Duo Sonata, already reflecting his gift for lyricism, to the dramatic Grieg Sonata No 3, heavily influenced by Norwegian folk songs. Gershwin’s themes from Porgy and Bess are arranged in a highly virtuosic finale by Frolov which shows off Emily’s astonishing talent to the full.
