This year we thought it a good idea to have 200 children actually realise the joy of making music themselves rather than just be entertained. To this end we have commissioned the very well known and inspirational composer and chorus leader Sammy Hurden to write songs and teach them to classes from each of our local primary schools as well as from Beaminster School. Each school will also sing their own contribution.
Tickets are available from the schools: Greenford, Broadwindsor, Parrett and Axe, Sticklands, Salway Ash, St Mary’s Academy and Beaminster School.
The Dorset Music Education Hub led by the Dorset Music Service kindly assisted with the funding of this event.
Sammy Hurden is very well known as a singer, performing in Trio Hysteria and as a composer – The Calling performed at the Royal Albert Hall Proms and Sous Les Pommiers performed by English and French children at Caen marking D-Day. As an arranger she has worked with P.J. Harvey, Jacqui Dankworth and Toyah Wilcox. As an inspirational teacher, she has been leading choirs and singing workshops for thirty years. She loves to share her lively enthusiasm for harmony and singing.
